WHAT ARE SVG FILES?
SVG stands for scalable vector graphic. The more common name for an SVG file is a cut file. An SVG file is a file format that can be cut out using a personal cutting machine such as a Silhouette or a Cricut. Both are fantastic machines.
HOW CAN I USE SVG FILES?
SVG files can be used to make many different projects. An SVG file can offer powerful graphics at any scale, speed up your website, and improve SEO.
Here are three of my favorite ways to use SVG files.
CREATE IRON-ON DESIGNS
Creating iron-on designs using SVG files is one of my favorite ways to use cut files. Think holidays, family vacation shirts or baby shower gifts like onesies. The possibilities are endless. To use SVG files as iron-on designs, you will need to cut your design out of heat transfer vinyl and then adhere the vinyl to the clothing per the directions on the vinyl. You can use an iron or a Cricut Easy Press to adhere the vinyl to the clothing. The most common item to use in conjunction with iron-on designs is clothing but you can also adhere heat transfer vinyl to tote bags, fabric banners, or just about anything made of fabric.
CREATE VINYL LETTERING
SVG files can be placed anywhere! I usually cut my lettering out of vinyl and place it on items such as mugs, tumblers, clipboards and wooden signs. I recently created some hoop art using my hand lettering and vinyl. If you are placing your vinyl on something that is going to get wet (dishes, mugs etc.), you’ll want to be sure to use a permanent waterproof vinyl and make sure hand wash your item. I’ve put too many cups through the dishwasher only to have the vinyl come right off. WOMP WOMP.
CREATE CARD-STOCK DESIGNS
You can also use SVG files to create designs out of cardstock. Cut the SVG files out of cardstock and you can make so many fun projects like gift cards, cupcake toppers, confetti and even photo booth props. The sky is the limit on designs made from cardstock.
Now that you know how to use SVG files, what types of projects will you make?

What are PNG files used for?
The Portable Network Graphic is a versatile image file format. Here are just a few ways you can use PNGs:
Logos with transparent backgrounds.
Designers often use PNG files for logos. That’s because the format supports transparent backgrounds, which means designers can layer logo files on different backgrounds in a way that looks natural.
Online charts and graphics.
The PNG format uses lossless compression, which means that this file type retains of all its original data when compressed. This makes PNGs great for detailed graphics and charts on websites because none of the vital information gets lost.
To display high-quality digital images, websites frequently use the PNG file format. PNGs, which were developed to outperform GIF files, provide lossless compression and a significantly wider and brighter color spectrum. Usually, PNG files are used for:
1. Translucent backgrounds for logos
For logos, designers frequently utilize PNG files. This allows designers to naturally layer logo files on various backgrounds since the format permits transparent backgrounds.
2. Graphs and charts for online
Since the PNG format employs lossless compression, all the original data in this file type is kept even after compression. Because none of the crucial details are lost, PNGs are excellent for comprehensive website graphics and charts.
How to Open PNG Files
Almost all editing software packages can open PNG files. You may access and view them without any issues using the Adobe suite. You might use these file types as a backup for your work. You can revise and tweak your work endlessly without sacrificing quality.
Both Photos and the native picture viewer for Windows or Mac will open this format using the operating system's default tools. You can use any internet browser if you don't have any editing software and would instead use something else. Furthermore useful, Google Drive gives you a preview.
Here are the basic methods to open the PNG files:
Double-click to open a PNG file in the default image viewing or editing program.
You can always open a PNG in Windows Picture Viewer by right-clicking the image and choosing Preview, even if you change the default software later.
Use the top menu for file operations, such as copying an image, printing, emailing, burning to a disc, or opening it in another program.

CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black) is the color space for printed materials.
A printing machine creates images by combining CMYK colors to varying degrees with physical ink. This is known as subtractive mixing. All colors start as blank white, and each layer of ink reduces the initial brightness to create the preferred color. When all colors are mixed together, they create pure black.
When to use CMYK?
Use CMYK for any project design that will be physically printed, not viewed on a screen. If you need to recreate your design with ink or paint, the CMYK color mode will give you more accurate results.
Turn to CMYK vs RGB if your project involves:
Branding, business cards, stationary, stickers, signs & storefronts, Advertising, billboards, posters, flyers, vehicle wraps, brochures, Merchandise, t-shirts, hats and other branded clothing, promotional swag (pens, mugs, etc.), Essential materials, product packaging, restaurant menus
CMYK Produces Superior Color in Printing
CMYK is the industry standard for printing because of the science behind the color space and the substrate. Ink on paper must use the CMYK color space to achieve the optimum results by creating an unlimited number and shades of color. CMYK will produce full, dark, rich and vibrant colors to bring your project on paper to life!

What Is Sublimation Printing?
Sublimation printing is a technique of applying color to a substrate, usually a polymer, by using heat and special inks. The dye changes from a solid to a gas and penetrates the fabric or material, fixing the color permanently. It can be done on a wide variety of items, such as shirts, mugs, or bags, with a polyester fabric or coating. It is a type of digital printing process that produces high-quality results. It involves printing onto a special type of paper called “sublimation transfer paper” and then putting it on the desired product with proper pressure and heat (350–400 degrees).
HOW TO USE A SUBLIMATION TRANSFER
If you plan to use this art for a Sublimation Transfer project - here are some suggestions for your success:
Light colored polyester shirts work best as sublimation does not print white.
IF THERE IS white on your transfer - it will show as the color of your shirt.
White or Grey shirts work the best.
Absolutely no darker shirts.
Sublimation Transfers:
The sublimation transfer must be used on a 50% or more polyester garment.
50% polyester will give it a vintage look as some fading will occur after washing.
Sublimation ink only adheres to the polyester in the garment.
If you want your shirt to stay vibrant and not have any fading whatsoever, USE 100% polyester.
100% polyester will yield the most vibrant results and it will not fade.
Sublimation Directions:
Preheat your heat press to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Make sure you adjust your press for medium pressure.
Lint roll and pre-press your shirt for 15 seconds to remove any moisture.
**lint rolling is important especially if using white shirts to prevent tiny blue dots on your shirt after pressing**
Put a sheet of butcher paper in the inside of your shirt to prevent the image bleeding through.
Place your transfer printed side down on the location that you want it on your shirt.
You can use heat tape to keep your transfer from moving. It must be heat tape only.
Cover the whole shirt with a sheet of butcher paper and press 400 degrees for 60 seconds.
Once 60 seconds is done, remove the butcher paper and carefully pull off the sublimation transfer in one direction.
To prevent ghosting and extra ink getting on your shirt - Try not to let the image touch as you pull it up.
Recommended Shirts:
Gildan G420 - Sports Gray, White
Cricut Infusible Ink Shirts,
Jerzees 21M – Athletic Heather, Silver, White or any other light colors
Suggested Washing Instructions - Turn Garment inside out. Machine wash cold. No bleach. No fabric softeners. Do not dry clean. Do not iron. Tumble dry at low heat.
TO PRINT ON MUGS - Please use the user manual that your mug press came with. Please only use sublimation coated mugs as regular mugs will not work.
You should use high quality sublimation paper with high quality sublimation ink to get the best results possible! Your transfer may appear dull but that is because the special inks are heat activated. Once pressed they will be more vibrant. and pdf print
